Metabolo
An installable, offline-first web app for managing an elimination diet — food lookup, a food and symptom journal, and menu analysis.
Metabolo is a personal tool for managing an elimination diet, built for a family member following a doctor-prescribed protocol. It organizes the protocol and surfaces patterns in the data. It doesn't prescribe anything.
It ships as a Progressive Web App: installable from a link on iOS and Android, working offline, with no accounts and no backend. That keeps it free of store review and lets updates go out on deploy. The release order follows the diagnostic value of each piece:
- Installable shell — the food checker (exact-name lookup with a plain-language verdict, never a guess from a partial match), a category browser, an ingredient-label reference for hidden triggers, and a meal-idea generator. A cited general reference is bundled, and the user's own list is loaded on the device and never leaves it, so all of it works with no network.
- Journal — a timestamped food and symptom log that shows what was eaten in the 24–48 hours before each event. Browsers can evict stored data, so it ships with JSON export and import, a persistent-storage request, and backup nudges.
- Reintroduction tracker — doctor-coordinated, with a printable export for appointments. Alongside it, a cited scientific-analysis section.
- Menu analyst — photograph a menu and get an annotated version. Uncertain dishes are flagged rather than marked safe, and nothing is sent to an AI provider before explicit consent.
Status
In progress. The installable shell is built and tested; installing it on a phone and the first on-device checks are next. The journal, reintroduction tracker and menu analyst come after.
